Patrick for Kansas
Welcome to my newsletter! I'll be using this space to bring you campaign news, upcoming events, and house renovation updates.
My Name is Patrick Schmidt and I am running for Kansas' 19th State Senate district. I am a sixth-generation Kansan, coming from a family of farmers, miners, and teachers. I'm currently working in the Naval Reserve and have returned to Kansas with my wife, Megan, to fight for your rights in the Kansas Legislature.
On August 6th, Democrats will choose their candidate for the general election. I am asking for your vote because I will fight for your rights in the state senate. Extremist Republicans, aided by a few Democrats, have waged war on abortion rights for the last 40 years. While we were all hopeful that the resounding defeat of "Value them Both," on August 2nd, 2022 would end their crusade, it's clear every day, they won't stop until they outlaw abortion nation-wide.
This space will be used to bring you local news, campaign updates, and upcoming events to support us!
News:
The extremist Republicans in our supermajority legislature have introduced new legislation that would require women to get an ultrasound before an abortion. It would also force doctors to use these ultrasounds to convince women not to get abortions, otherwise they could face felony charges. The legislature needs younger, progressive Democrats to help lead the charge against these issues; I want to fight for you against these issues and make sure women in Kansas have safe access to their healthcare.
Events:
This Thursday, I met with some key community leaders for coffee. I had a great time discussing the issues they’re concerned about in their communities. It was great to see former Mayor Joan Wagnon and I’m thrilled to have her endorsement!
House Renovation Updates
My wife, Megan, and I have been working on our home in Topeka, and we’re finally in the home stretch! We are thankful that we are finally home owners, having successfully navigated the closing process. We are excited to be renovating the bathroom and kitchen and will begin working outside when the weather warms up more. We're looking forward to having a finished home base in Topeka and to share the progress with you.
