Patrick for Kansas
Welcome to my newsletter! I'll be using this space to bring you campaign news, upcoming events, and house renovation updates.
My Name is Patrick Schmidt and I am running for Kansas' 19th State Senate district. I am a sixth-generation Kansan, coming from a family of farmers, miners, and teachers. I'm currently working in the Naval Reserve and have returned to Kansas with my wife, Megan, to fight for your rights in the Kansas Legislature.
On August 6th, Democrats will choose their candidate for the general election. I am asking for your vote because I will fight for your rights in the state senate. Extremist Republicans, aided by a few Democrats, have waged war on abortion rights for the last 40 years. While we were all hopeful that the resounding defeat of "Value them Both," on August 2nd, 2022 would end their crusade, it's clear every day, they won't stop until they outlaw abortion nation-wide.
This space will be used to bring you local news, campaign updates, and upcoming events to support us!
News:
The state Senate overrode Governor Kelly’s veto on abortion coercion and gender-identity policies. This bill could create sentences for doctors & loved ones who even discuss abortion with pregnant women. The extremist Republicans want to make it nearly impossible for women in Kansas to have access to healthcare and make informed decisions with their physicians and family. The Senate needs younger, more progressive Democrats to fight these votes; I want to fight for you and make sure women in Kansas have safe & accessible healthcare.
More info on the bill here
Tax Bill Override, another example of the need for more progressive Democrats to help fight the super majority we are currently facing in the Senate.
Events:
April 4th: I attended the Bijoux Gala, where we raised money for The Willow Domestic Violence Center, which helps support victims of domestic violence and human trafficking in our community. A great event for a great cause!
April 28th: It was great to talk to the local APWU on Saturday. They are a key union here in Topeka and it’s great to have their support!
